The contest was inspired by ABC news programs produced by John Stossel. The company, In the Classroom Media, distributes videos of Stossel's specials to high schools and colleges. Students in Mr. Hockinson's Advanced Geography/Current Events class benefited from using two of Stossel's videos. Students who voluntarily entered the contest worked together outside the classroom to put together their videos, with the help of art instructor Mrs. Cherwinka who supplied the group with necessary computer equipment from the art department.

For their winning entry, each of the team's members received a pencil, t-shirt, and $25.

"It was a lot of work but we are all really happy how it turned out in the end," commented Chelsea Schaefer of the group. "It just goes to show that even little towns opinions are important."

Text Box: K-W sophomores recognized for "Small Town" video production
Sophomores Racheal Sahl, Chelsea Schaefer, Bridget Dodds and Chelsea Ugland won the first-ever Stossel in the Classroom Video Contest at Kenyon-Wanamingo Schools. Their original video tape, "Is America #1?" was judged as the best entry at their school last December and was then sent to New York for competition with schools from around the country, but did not place.
This four-woman team put together a video filled with interviews, local opinions and shots of small town life.
