Who izzit?
izzit.org is dedicated to teaching the next generation about the ideas, institutions, and benefits of a free society. At the same time, we seek to foster the critical thinking skills necessary for young people to become independent-minded, fully engaged citizens.
To prepare students for successful self-government, we help them understand the foundational ideas of our republic, such as individual liberty, personal responsibility, and equality before the law. We ask students to think about the role of government and the importance of voluntary associations in promoting human flourishing. Students gain a greater appreciation for how a free society with a strong rule of law enables a diverse people to coexist, cooperate, and prosper.
We design our curriculum materials to promote thoughtful discussion and respectful debate about issues and events. We encourage a healthy skepticism about authoritative claims, so that students learn to seek out evidence rather than accept assertions. In this way, young people develop the ability to use reason and common sense to evaluate the information they will encounter throughout their lives.
Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives. – James Madison
izzit.org is an educational initiative of the Free To Choose Network, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit producer of television documentaries.
FAQ
Q: How do I get help signing in or with a website problem?
A: Just email us at ask@izzit.org or call 888-242-0563, 8am - 6pm ET, M-F.
Q: How often can I get a FREE Video?
A: We want teachers to know how much they're appreciated. That's why we offer one FREE video every school year for as long as you teach. izzit PLUS members may receive multiple FREE videos per year (see below for details). In return, we ask only for your feedback once the video is used in class. Note that we consider a school year to be July 1 - June 30, so once you sign up and select your free video, you will be eligible for another FREE video next July 1, if you submitted feedback via our online form. Click here to preview the Video Feedback Form.
Q: What's the catch with the FREE Video?
A: There is no catch. There is no shipping or handling charge. No invoice will be sent and the video need not be returned. The only thing we request in return is feedback. We also encourage sharing! Get your colleagues to sign up, each selecting a different video, then share!
Q: What is involved in subscribing to Daily Current Events?
A: New izzit members receive a 30-day free trial of Daily Current Events after they register at any time during the school year. After the free trial period, access to the Daily Current Events service and archives will be limited to paid subscribers ONLY, at a cost of $3 per year (or free with an izzit Plus membership; see below for details).
Q: Why are you charging for current events? Wasn't this a free service?
A: We always try to provide quality services at the lowest possible cost. And you can still get Daily Current Events for free, if you become an izzit PLUS member (see below for details). Although we provided current events for several years at no cost, budget issues dictated the need to begin charging a nominal amount for the service. The small $3/year subscription fee will not only help us defray some of the cost involved in providing Current Events, but it will also prove to our funders that this service has value to teachers who subscribe. This will help to encourage our funders to help keep all of the services and DVDs coming to you at minimal cost, often free.
New this year is a new format: "dual" current events. We've improved Daily Current Events with TWO current events selections every day on the Current Events page. Each selection is complete with vocabulary terms and discussion questions designed to promote critical thinking. Each is great for bell-ringer activities, writing assignments or debate and speech topics. All at a cost of less than 2 cents per day!
Q: What is the difference between izzit and izzit PLUS memberships?
A: It's FREE to join izzit and members receive one FREE video per year. You will also have access to our Educational Standards Alignment tool, which allows you to see how any particular video meets your state standards and U.S. Standards, or to find out which of our videos meet a specific standard.
izzit PLUS membership is our $9.95 per year option. izzit PLUS members receive all of the benefits of izzit membership AND they receive our Daily Current Events and Current Events archives FREE ... PLUS:
